Rockin with Melissa

Well, last week being Fourth of July was a busy but fun week. My friends who know me well know that I love Melissa Etheridge. I was introduced to her music long ago by a coworker who gave my husband a tape. I just about wore the tape out playing the 2 albums over & over again while dancing in my kitchen. She played 2 nights at the Melody Tent in Hyannis last week and yep I was there for both of them. The first night Tony & I went - it was a hot steamy night on Cape Cod and Melissa rocked the house! She played her heart out for just about 3 hours and the crowd loved her. The second night my friend Denise & I went to the show - a bit cooler than the night before but no less hot and steamy inside as another great show was before us. Melissa and her rockin' band had everyone on their feet for the entire night. She sang with raw emotion as she chronicled her life with stories and songs. They were great nights - if you weren't there you missed 2 really wonderful shows.

Girly Fan

I am a Girlyman Fan - me and a few of my friends including my husband, Tony and my daughter Jenn, love this band. We, Tony & I discovered them at an Indigo Girls concert at the Cape Cod Melody Tent www.melodytent.org last year. Little did we know what we were listening to that night. It's just 3 of them, 2 girls and a guy and they're kind of folksy but very cool (I think), with unbelievable harmonies and a wonderful sense of humor. They chat during the show about their songs, make up tuning songs and have a great time playing. They put on the best shows - I've seen them at least 5 times in less than a year. They play in small venues, coffee houses and music halls and I(we) just can't get enough of them. We have all their cds and they play consistently in my ipod whenever I'm out walking or working in the yard. I wish I had pictures of them but I'm a bit intimidated to bring my big camera to their shows, maybe next time. They have so many great songs but Amaze Me is my all time favorite. Check them out and give them a listen (if that doesn't do it for you then you have to see them live!) - maybe you'll become a Girly Fan too!

Fun Times

Last weekend while celebrating Jenn's birthday, my husband Tony & I along with 2 other couples had the pleasure of seeing some former classmates from our, oh so long ago, high school days at Wareham High. We went to Salerno's in Onset, MA to listen to our friend Mikelyn Roderick (we know her as Lynn) sing her heart out. She is a talented performer who we also saw a few years ago singing backup with Barry White. We had such a great night, catching up with her and dancing to the oldies but goodies of the 70's. Betcha by Golly Wow is one of my favs and she had it in her set list. Of course, we had to dance! She had quite a few fans in attendance along with one of her students who had just graduated from WHS. So, here we are, Chrissy, Lynn, me, Darrell in back, Marylou, Debbi and Billy. If you get the opportunity to listen to Mikelyn, be sure to check her out! She rocks!! Thanks for such a fun time. It was really great to see everyone.
